I thought the course was excellent, very well planned and covered a wide range of material. Just what I needed at this early stage in my SLT career. It was great also to meet a wide range of SLTs and to hear about their experiences in a wide range of settings.
This is a fantastic course. I felt enthused and feel that I have more confidence because of it. It was great listening to Jo and Liz, two highly skilled professionals, who imparted their passion for the subject. Very professional. Good mixture between theory and practice. Good choice of venue. Thank you for feeding us so well-it was appreciated!
I would 100% recommend this course to anyone looking to increase their practical knowledge and management of dysphagia. As an NQP, I have found dysphagia to be quite challenging – but following the theoretical week, I feel I have developed both my understanding and interest (and equally important – gained a bit more confidence and self-belief!) when considering a dysphagia caseload. Jo and Liz are very professional – friendly and passionate about what they do, providing an interactive teaching style with detailed resources. I work in Adult Stroke, but found the ALD and paediatric lectures to be just as engaging. Really great to meet other SLT’s and discuss our experiences so far! Thankyou for a great week!
I would highly recommend this course. The venue was modern, comfortable and had very good amenities. It was a thoroughly enjoyable week filled with slick, professional presentations that were interesting, humorous and very informative.
Jo, Liz and the guest speakers managed to entertain, advise, and most importantly educate the attendees to a high standard. They were very approachable, relaxed, and created an atmosphere where it felt comfortable enough to ask and answer questions in an open forum.
Absolutely loved this course! Jo and Liz are excellent tutors, who make the course interactive and engaging. The course covered a lot of information and it was great that we learnt about other client groups than our own too. Liz and Jo were very reassuring throughout and i feel more confident to assess a client’s eating and drinking skills. I would highly recommend the course to any SLTs who are working in this area and i cannot thank Jo and Liz enough for making it such a great experience!
The venue was perfect and easy to find and park. Always tidy and friendly staff. Great food and as long as you let the course administrators know, the venue cater for all dietary requirements!
Thank you for a wonderful course and sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience!
In her gratefully-received testimonial above, Laura states: “as long as you let the course administrators know, the venue cater for all dietary requirements!” Please note that we request that you inform us of any special needs or dietary requirements on the application form.
Thoroughly enjoyable and informative study week! Liz and Jo are very experienced and have an interactive teaching style that engages learners in the vast range of sessions taught. The venue was good, relatively easy to find and the food was plentiful. The combination of log of hours, assignment and an exam enables you to grow in confidence, reflect on your practice and developing skill set and provides you with a sense of achievement to look back on. I know the exams and assignment are pass/fail but it would have been good to receive some feedback for continued professional development even if it was banded (strong pass, good pass, pass, fail) with one area identified for further development or clarification. However, I can appreciate how popular the course is, how busy it can make Jo and Liz and that they already have other working commitments.
I would recommend the course to anyone looking to consolidate their knowledge of Dysphagia and it’s management in the vast range of settings SLT work within.
Thank you for a great week, I now feel confident with a mixed case load of acquired and progressive neurological conditions, learning disability and mental health.

The course was informative and interesting and the lecturers very knowledgeable and approachable. I really enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone. It has made a real difference to my understanding and practice. The week flew by!
A brilliant course! This came highly recommended to me by fellow colleagues and friends who raved about the wealth of theory, information, experience, advice and fun this course has to offer – and it did not disappoint! A very well structured (and enjoyable) theoretical week in Manchester based on the carefully collaborated handbook provides a fantastic foundation for understanding all aspects of dysphagia from anatomy, assessment and management. Jo and Liz deliver a great theoretical programme in a fun and interactive way. The venue was comfortable and easy to find. The food was delicious (and plentiful!). There is adequate time allocated to complete the assignments and prepare for the exam. It would be nice to receive some feedback on assignments and the exam to facilitate reflexive learning. Overall, I would recommend this course to any budding therapist!
I would recommend this course for anyone who wants a good balance of theoretical knowledge with practical application, including plenty of opportunities to discuss case studies and ethics, and experience interventions and assessments. The course presenters – Liz and Jo – were incredibly enthusiastic and really approachable, always happy to share any experiences or knowledge.
As an SLT working in an ALD setting, it was great to meet SLTs working with different client groups and be able to take a more ‘medical’ approach to dysphagia in the ALD setting.
The venue and refreshments/lunches provided were all excellent.
Although I imagine it would be a lot of work, some form of feedback regarding the case study or exams would be useful in terms of further development of skills/knowledge. Even if this is receiving copies of the papers back with notes/comments electronically.
This course was fantastic – great to have a number of the MDT involved presenting on their areas of expertise. Liz and Jo were enthusiastic, thorough, extremely knowledgeable and approachable. Facilities were great too. Really please to see that the course handbook is more structured and easier to navigate. A paragraph of feedback on the assignment would further facilitate reflection and learning on this course.
