I attended the course in November/December 2023 and due to maternity leave, and then getting pregnant again, did not manage to complete all the elements until November 2025. Throughout the whole process, there was excellent and clear communication from Martyn. The course was really excellent, both teaching us the what and how of being a dysphagia therapist, but also asking the hard questions around ethics and making us think about the why, and how to be the best we can be in spite of the resource and systematic challenges we may face. I also appreciated how honest Jo and Liz were about the potential pitfalls/avoidable risks, so we can learn to avoid them as far as possible!
I attended the Manchester Post Basic Dysphagia Course in June 2025. I was surprised by the rich material of the course and was more surprised with the ability of the presenters to simplify the subject to be easily digested by the audience (especially as not all of us are Speech and language therapists). I enjoyed the variety of presentations that didn’t allow a place for confusion. I recommend this course for whoever is interested in dysphagia from the medical field. An additional full day of radiology teaching of videofluoroscopy would make this course even more perfect.
I completed the course in November 2024 and the teaching of the course was brilliant and both Liz and Jo were friendly, approachable and very knowledgeable. The expectations following the course were clear too, giving guidance for completion of the coursework. They were able to provide explanations in an easy to follow format and were very responsive to all questions that were asked. There were some practical element opportunities which supported in consolidating some of the content we learnt.
This Post Basic Dysphagia course was honestly fantastic. Liz and Jo were approachable, knowledgeable, and clearly passionate about what they do, which made the whole experience even better. The hands-on components and real-life case discussions made the learning highly relevant and applicable in my clinical setting. I particularly appreciated the focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and patient-centred care. The course also encouraged great discussions and shared experiences between learners, which was a huge bonus. I’d definitely recommend this training. It’s practical, engaging, and really helps take your clinical skills to the next level.
