Liz Boaden

Liz Boaden

Dr Elizabeth Boaden qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 1986. She worked in a generalist post before becoming Head of Adult Services with a consultative role in dysphagia for adults and ALD. In 1990, Liz became a founding tutor and lecturer on the Manchester Post Basic Dysphagia Course. Liz lectures at undergraduate and post-graduate level on specialist and advanced courses, including the MSc Advanced Medical Imaging Course, as well as presenting at national and international conferences. Liz is co-author of Swallowing Guidelines: Individualised Programmes of Care and researcher and lead author of the Eating, Drinking and Swallowing Competency Framework (EDSCF). Liz was Chair of the RCSLT Expert IDDSI Group. She also has an active research portfolio, specialising on Improving Global Health by developing innovative dysphagia solutions in Low to Middle Income Countries. In 2011 Liz received a doctorate in recognition of her programme of work entitled “Improving the identification and management of aspiration after stroke” and in 2013 was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the profession.

Jo Marks

Jo Marks

Jo Marks qualified as a Speech & Language Therapist in 1993. She worked in a generalist post in both Adults and Paediatrics before becoming Lead Specialist for Paediatric Dysphagia in Manchester in 2002. Jo works across a number of locations with her specialism in acute paediatrics including critical care and neonates. She also has a consultative role within Special Schools. Jo has extensive experience teaching at a number of levels which include under-graduates, on the paediatric module of the Manchester Metropolitan University ‘Advanced Dysphagia Course’ and on the PGC Advanced Practice in Medical Imaging (swallowing disorders) at the University of Salford. In addition to this Jo has presented at conferences both nationally & internationally. Jo is involved in a number of projects including the development of Paediatric FEES service & research looking at the effects of enzyme treatment on swallowing within the degenerative condition Niemann Picks Syndrome.
